Frequently Asked Questions

  • We aim to source our secondhand clothing locally. Our primary sources include buying pre-loved clothing from local individuals directly when they clean out their closet and sourcing from local thrift stores. All items are hand selected by us for you.

  • We try to source items locally in the Ottawa area as much as possible in order to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. Afterall, part of what drives our business is the desire to create a sustainable shopping experience that is better for our planet. We occasionally source from other locations based on travel plans and very occasionally source online from individuals.

  • No, in general we do not wash clothing before selling them. If a piece of clothing has been treated or washed before selling it, this will be indicated on the product description.

  • Yes, if you live in the Ottawa area, we offer clothing buyouts and you can learn more about this process on our Sell To Us page.

  • There is a long list of reasons to shop secondhand but we’ll give you the highlight reel:

It reduces the demand for new production. The fashion industry production comprises 10% of total global carbon emissions and 85% of all textiles go to dumps each year. We want to reduce the demand for fast fashion and see production decrease and less textiles in the landfill as a result.

According to 2015 documentary The True Cost, the world consumes around 80 billion new pieces of clothing every year, 400% more than the consumption twenty years ago. We need to reverse this trend and focus on purchasing more intentionally; adding fewer pieces to our closet, choosing secondhand over new and choosing quality clothing we will wear long-term.

Brands use synthetic fibres like polyester, nylon and acrylic which take hundreds of years to biodegrade. Along with our shift to purchasing fewer pieces of clothing, we want to shift to buying quality fabrics that are more friendly to our environment. That is why we pay attention to fabrics when hand selecting items for the shop and try to select more sustainable fabrics when possible.

Where and how you spend your money has an impact. Making more sustainable fashion choices can help to shape the future of the fashion industry as it responds to consumer demand.
